Pudgy Penguins, the NFT project known for its 8,888 flightless bird collectibles, has dismissed speculation about acquiring OpenSea. Beau, the project's head of security, clarified on X that no such deal has taken place. "Pudgy Penguins didn’t buy OpenSea… chill," he wrote, redirecting attention to ongoing partnerships with brands like Lufthansa and NASCAR.
The rumors gained traction after users cited past comments by CEO Luca Netz, including an October 2024 post expressing interest in purchasing the marketplace. Some speculated a quiet December 2024 completion, but Pudgy Penguins emphasized its focus on expanding physical products and commercial licensing through OverpassIP.
